All-rounder Sophie Devine has been appointed as the captain of the New Zealand women’s cricket team.
She will replace Amy Satterthwaite, who will play the role of vice captain after returning from maternity leave.
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said in a press release,
“Sophie Devine will be the captain of the New Zealand women’s cricket team while Amy Satterthwaite will play the role of vice-captain after returning from maternity leave”
Devine was tentatively handed the captaincy of the New Zealand women’s team last season.
Her outstanding performance as a captain made her a full-time captain.
The 30-year-old has played 105 ODIs and 91 T20 Internationals for New Zealand so far.
Apart from scoring 4954 runs in both these formats, she has also taken 158 wickets.

Divine said,
“It is a great honor to have captained the National Team. I fully enjoyed my role as captain last season. Sometimes it was challenging in terms of results but I think as a team we are moving in the right direction”
At the same time, Cricket South Africa on Wednesday reappointed Hilton Mooring as the head coach of the national women’s team and extended her contract by three years.
The former wicket keeper took the position in 2012 and led the women’s team to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup earlier this year.
Mooring (42 years) said in the statement,
“It is a wonderful moment for me to be given the opportunity to work with the CSA women’s team again.I want to thank Cricket South Africa, who trusted me to guide this talented group of cricketers in their journey to the next stage”
