South Africa Women’s Cricket team Captain Dane Van Niekerk turns 27 today.
She was born on 14 May 1993 in Pretoria and educated at Centurion High School.
Niekerk is an all-rounder, who plays all the three formats i.e, Test, One-Day International and Twenty20 International for South Africa.
She has been the women’s team captain in all three forms (Test, ODI and T20I) since June 2016.
Debut at the age of 16
Dane Van Niekerk made her international debut at the age of 16 only when she got a chance to play during a WC match against WI.
She was initially a full time bowler but through the years, she has developed herself into an all-rounder.
Currently, Dane Van Niekerk is one of the best women’s all-rounders in International Cricket.
Domestic and International Career
Dane Van Niekerk initially played domestic matches for Highveld Women and Northerns Women.
After that, she became one of the first two SA women’s cricketers to be included in the Eastern Province Cricket academy.
She had started playing WBBL for Melbourne Renegades in 2015 and currently she is part of the Sydney Sixers squad.
Since her debut in international Cricket, she has performed well in every format of the game and in reward, she was appointed as SA Women’s Captain for all formats.

Niekerk was named as one of the players in the ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year in 2017.
She was also named as the Women’s Cricketer of the Year at CSA’s annual award ceremony in 2019.
First South African Woman to take an International hat-trick
Niekerk has managed to achieve a new record as she became the first SA woman cricketer to take an international hat-trick.
She had taken 5 wickets by giving only 28 runs against West Indies in an ODI match.
She is also the first bowler in SA international Cricket (either Men’s or Women’s Cricket) to take four wickets in an international match without giving any run.
 Personal Life Of Niekerk
Dane Van Niekerk married her teammate Marizanne Kapp in 2013.
They both knew each other for a long time and later on decided to marry.
