Team India Announces Squad for Champions Trophy 2025

Team India has announced a 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy 2025. The announcement was made by captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar during a press conference in Mumbai on Saturday, January 18.

While the ICC had set January 12 as the deadline for teams to submit their squads, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sought an extension to assess the fitness of a few recovering players.

Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav have been included in the squad and are expected to recover in time for the tournament. However, Bumrah is likely to miss the first two ODIs against England, with Harshit Rana named as his replacement for those games.

Pacer Mohammed Siraj, however, has been left out of the squad. Veteran seamer Mohammed Shami makes his return after a prolonged absence since the 2023 ODI World Cup, while Arshdeep Singh earns a spot as a left-arm pace option for a major ODI tournament.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been selected as the backup opener, with Shubman Gill named as the vice-captain. Despite his exceptional recent form in the format, Karun Nair has not been included in the squad.

Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson also misses out, with the selectors opting for KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant instead. In the spin department, India has gone for an all-rounder-heavy approach, naming Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, and Ravindra Jadeja, while Kuldeep Yadav is the only wrist-spinner in the team.
