Kohli told how his father Prem refused to bribe him for his selection in the Delhi team.

 

The 31-year-old Kohli said that he was not meeting a regular player selection criteria, but the officer demanded a little bribe from his father so that Kohli could be retained in the team.

 

However, Virat Kohli father had categorically refused to bribe, saying his son would only play on the basis of merit.

 

He said,

 

‘In my home state (Delhi), sometimes things happen that are not right.

 

Once, people do not follow the rules many times regarding selection.

 

He told my father that I too have the ability to choose, but a little bribe will confirm my selection.

 

Virat said, ‘My father – who belonged to an honest middle class became a successful lawyer due to his hard work.

Virat said that after the father’s death, he became more motivated about his goal. He said,

 

‘I adopted his demise. I was focused on moving forward in my career.

 

I also went to bat in a Ranji match the next day after his death. His death made me understand that I had to do something in my life.

 

I think how nice it would have been to give my father a good, peaceful retired life, which he deserved.
