ICC suspends Women’s World Cup and Men’s U-19 WC qualifiers due to Covid-19

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has postponed qualifying tournaments in July of the 2021 Women’s World Cup and the 2022 Men’s Under-19 World Cup due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

The women’s qualifying competition was to be held in Sri Lanka from July 3 to 19

 

In this tournament, 10 teams including host Sri Lanka have to take part.

 

The other teams were Bangladesh, Ireland, Netherlands, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, USA, West Indies and Zimbabwe.

 

The ICC said that it has been decided to postpone the qualification process of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2021 and the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2022, after consulting members and concerned governments and public health officials.

 

The qualifying process of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022 was to begin with the European regional qualifier to be held in Denmark from 24 to 30 July.

 

The ICC will consult competing countries to determine when these tournaments can be held.

 

ICC Head of Competition Chris Tetley said that we have decided to postpone two upcoming qualifying events due to ongoing restrictions on travel, global health concerns and the advice of the government and public health officials.

 

He said that both the Women’s Cricket World Cup qualifier and the Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2022 European qualifier were affected.

Tetley said players’ health is most important. In this difficult time, our priority is to keep players, coaches, officials, fans and the entire cricket community healthy.

 

Two Competitions for the ICC Under-19 World Cup Regional Qualifier Division are also under review.

 

The Africa qualifiers are scheduled to take place from August 7 to 14 in Tanzania

 

While the Asia qualifiers from December 1 to 9 in Thailand. Division One competitions in all five regions will be held in 2021.

 

All the Cricket activities have been postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus outbreak in the world.
