Afghanistan player Shafiqullah Shafiq has been banned for 6 years for Corruption

Bangladesh Cricket Board had taken a decision to ban Afghanistan cricket team batsman Shafiqullah Shafiq for 6 years on Sunday.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board ruled to ban wicketkeeper batsman Shafiqullah from all forms of cricket for the next 6 years as he was found guilty of corruption.

He has been involved in corrupt activities during Afghanistan Premier League(APL) T20 and Bangladesh Premier League.

Shafiqullah Shafiq has accepted all of the allegations of breaking the Anti-Corruption Code of Conduct of the Afghanistan Cricket Board(ACB). 

Shafiqullah Shafiq is accused of involvement in corruption related activities during Afghanistan Premier League 2018 and Bangladesh Premier League 2019.

The statement issued by the Afghanistan Cricket Board said,

“Shafiqullah Shafiq has been found guilty of breaking article 2.1.1. This article is about direct fixing and taking measures to try or influence people in any other way or Then to be the party that tries to make some kind of agreement or fix or take some measures or is deliberately involved to play poorly. ”

He played an incredible innings during Nangarhar Champion Trophy(T20), scoring double century with the help of 21 sixes and 16 fours in the 2018.

In that match, he scored 214 runs on just 71 balls. He also has the record for making the fastest double century in first-class cricket.

Shafiqullah who is 30 years old, has played 24 ODIs and 46 T20 matches for Afghanistan.

His last international match was In September 2019, when he played a T20 match against Bangladesh Cricket Team.

“Like the code of this provision, Shafiq has taken all the allegations leveled against him by the Bangladesh Cricket Board in front of the anti-corruption tribunal..”

Syed Anwar Shah Qureshi, Anti Corruption Manager said, 

“This is a very serious allegation where the senior player is involved in corruption in high-profile domestic tournaments”
